Jimmy's ready to raise a ruckus and the only thing bigger than his hair is his fighting spirit!

Scrappy young Jimmy is a pro wrestler in the making, and he’s up for taking on anyone and anything. From his own family, his schoolwork, wild animals and pirates, he’s challenging the world one small fight at a time, but can his hopes and dreams take him all the way to stellar success? Or will his fists finally get him into too much trouble? Lara Kaminoff’s graphic novel about the human spirit is funny and touching, with anti-hero Jimmy punching his way right into readers’ hearts.

“Jimmy’s journey opens up questions of happiness over ambition, of finding one’s place in the world, and whether there’s value in dedicating ourselves to a singular purpose over everything else. Kaminoff takes that to an intriguingly symbolic conclusion that in its own quiet way leaves us with much to meditate on at the end of Jimmy’s story.” -Andy Oliver (Editor in Chief of Broken Frontier)

Lola was WIDE Awake was my Illustration thesis project painted during my senior year at MICA. It was the first time I had worked with gouache and (while it was clearly a bit of steep learning curve) it made me fall in love with the medium.

So many stories end with the adult version of reality winning out—I made this book in the hopes that, at least this time, the kid version could triumph.
