The Bend: A Live/Work District
“Over the next decade with $550 million in planned investment from private and public partners, Watershed Community Development will create an eight-block live/work district in Seattle’s Georgetown called The Bend. The project will create affordable housing, nurture inclusive community, and support and share the arts.”
“Watershed Community Development builds resilient community, through affordable placemaking and placekeeping in the Duwamish Valley. We create at the intersection of the arts, equity, and collective well-being”
I was lucky enough to be a part of this incredible project as the proposal illustrator, highlighting the plan’s commitment to keeping art at the beating heart of the district and adding lively color and vitality to the nitty gritty information.
The paintings introduce each chapter, while the digital cartoon elements are spread throughout the plan to propel the reader through each section with a spirit of play. The chapter paintings, when displayed in sequence, were composed to mimic the original path of the Duwamish river.
